Before coming here, I would have assumed that's where we still were. But... apparently we aren't, so that begs the question of when did we change paths and which one are we on now, mm?

I can't help you with the "when", babe, I think it snuck up on us. As for the path thing, we both seem pretty unhappy with the thought of the other getting touchy feely with someone else. Which either means we're heading to dating exclusively land, or we need to talk about how to manage jealousy in an open arrangement. Or go back to friends with no benefits-ville.

[He had to nod along with that, sipping at his tea as he took a moment to consider his options. Friends with benefits had been all he'd been looking for, and all she had, as far as he'd known. He was comfortable with that, but apparently his... instincts were not inclined to agree. Maybe it had to do with the teasing nips that had gotten to close to areas neither of them should be marking if they didn't intend to be exclusive. Or maybe it was just time. Time for him, and perhaps time for her. Humans had shorter life cycles, and she seemed at about the age where she might be looking for a steady mate.]

[ She shook her head with a smile, giving him a teasingly resigned look. ]

I care about you, obviously. I'm also stupid levels of attracted to you at this point so as far as I'm concerned taking things a step further would probably feel pretty great. But I don't want it to happen just because some assholes triggered a territorial response. I don't want to feel like you're with me because we painted ourselves into some sort of metaphysical corner. Obviously instincts come with the package, that's not what I mean. I just mean that I still want this to be about us wanting to be together because of who we are... am I making sense?

[He couldn't argue with that because, well, he was. But he kept the smirk to a minimum and listened to her as she spoke. It'd be a ridiculously foolish idea to ask for her opinion and not listen. As she spoke, particularly when she mentioned being attracted to him, he leaned back and smoothed a hand up and down along his still naked chest. Being attracted wasn't a bad thing in any way, and it wasn't as if he didn't get a glimmer in his eye when he looked at her.

But her concerns were valid, and he patted his chest again before he leaned forward and leveled his gaze with hers.]

Yes, love, but feelings don't seem to make much sense, do they? I suppose that's why they're feelings and not logic. I can't say some of what we're in right now isn't... a little on the metaphysical side, as you put, but I also don't think that would be a facet of it if there wasn't already a base for it to have been built on.

You are who you are, I don't expect things to be entirely metaphysics-free. I guess I mostly want to know that taking steps to maybe get more into that territory happens because we want one another. Now, to answer your question: I don't think I want to take a break. What about you?

His nature begged for him to draw it out, but Lucas' genuine affection for her made it so that wouldn't be more than a heartbeat or two. One did not tease one's... ah, whatever it was they were to each other.]

I can't say I find the idea appealing. I'm already having to talk myself into sitting here and having a calm tea party with you instead of carting you over my shoulder to the bedroom. Clearly the attraction is there- still, and as for the affection... I care enough to be offended at the challenge for your attention. I think if I cared less, I may have reacted less.

[ Well, that right there absolutely destroyed her ability to keep herself from laughing, so she did. ]

[ She abandoned her tea cup to walk around to his side of the table, placing herself on his lap with one leg on either side of him. ]

So what you're saying is you got jealous?

[He watched her get up and stalk over to his side of the table, smiling at her as she moved to sit in his lap. His hands went to her thighs, kneading there before they slid up under her shirt along her back. His smile was more smug and self satisfied then, a purr trailing off as he answered her.]

I'd say that's a fair accusation. Jealous and territorial.

[ She leaned in to give him a kiss, more soft and affectionate than particularly sensual. ]

And now you look like you ate a whole bunch of canaries. Now here's what I'd like to know, since I can't shred furniture with my bare hands, what am I supposed to do if someone starts throwing challenges my way?

[His nose brushed against hers, eyes closing as he breathed in her scent, hands leaving his on her as he kept touching her. The question, however, had him pulling his head back to look up at her, perplexed.]

[Truthfully, the thought hadn't occurred to him. He hadn't had any emotional bonds with anyone who'd be inclined to throw challenges of any kind. But he supposed it was a good question; or perhaps having to deal with a jealous party to one of her... suitors.]

They wouldn't dare. We don't attack humans- well, most of us don't. If some such silly female decides to throw a challenge your way, you can offer a champion or lay claim to being under someone's protection. I'd likely claim that honor.

[ Deciding to help him out with the "touching her" business, Cassandra tugged her shirt off and threw it to the side. ]

Alright, I won't worry about that, then.

[That evened things up a bit, and he smiled as he leaned in and pressed a kiss to the hollow of her throat.]

I could get you a shirt made. "Property of-"

[ The fact that he was good at making her laugh really was one of her favourite things about Lucas.

It felt right, being in his arms, laughing at his joke while his lips sent a nice tingle along her skin. She didn't need to take a break to know it would suck to go back to being without it. ]

A tattoo? Little cat pawprints on specifically tasty parts.

[He liked that she could easily slip into the mood with him, to relax, to enjoy each other's company the best they could. And it was more fun to let offenses slide off than to dig into them.]

What parts?

[ They'd talked it out, apologised, started to make some sort of plan for how they wanted things to go. That was enough digging for the moment, in Cassandra's opinion. ]

[Oh, that was a pleasant move, his hand gliding down to cup her ass as he tipped his head up to nip at the edge of her jaw. It seemed they were about done with the discussion part of the evening.]

She playfully gave him feathery little kisses on his cheeks, the tip of his nose, his forehead, even his eyelids. ]

[He smiled under the flutter of her kisses over his face, chasing after her lips with his to steal a full-fledged kiss.]

It's a good start. Shall we take this to the bedroom? Or would you prefer that I stake my claim right here on the table?

I'm not sure the table could take it.

[ Said with barely contained laughter in her voice before she got off his lap with some reluctance.

She took one of his hands to pull him along to her bedroom, not because he needed to be shown the way, but because she wanted to keep touching him. ]

[He got up and let her lead him into her bedroom, stalking behind her with a rising sort of intent that was making his eyes glimmer. This would be a mating, and that was... something else. Something more than the casual flings of two interested parties coming together.]

Possibly not. But, darling, if we're moving forward with this, you realize that means that I'll be around more, mm?

[ She turned around to smile at him, even though there was also a bit of a nervous flutter in her stomach. She felt good about this, but there was still a certain weight to it that she had never quite experienced before. ]

I want you to be.

You're quite sure of that?

[His hand came up to trail along the nape of her neck, tugging at a stray lock of hair.]

Because once you agree, I may show up in strange places.
